Dorothy Torivio, Acoma
- One of the most abstract designers in Native American ceramics, Dorothy
Torivio has worked professionally at her art since 1975. By 1984, she had mastered the "op art" concept and was winning first prizes and Best of Show awards at the Gallup Ceremonial and Santa Fe Indian Market. The piece shown here is a thin-walled, highly geometric pattern representing the artist's image of four directions (crossing white lines) and yucca leaves (four white elements connected at the center) with the added touch of red dots representing snowflakes.

- This lovely fertility pot by a well known potter is a graceful shape, smaller at the base which gradually becomes larger and then smaller once again to the finished opening. The piece exhibits design motifs of: pinwheel geometric elements with hatching red flower-like fertility symbols, Zuni style heartline deer (deer were important because it lead them to water), and floral branch.
