Miniatures
There is an unspoken challenge among artists and craftsmen to express their creativity in increasingly refined media. For some this challenge may be met by the use of different materials, or colors, or subjects. For others it can be met by a change in scale. The nature of miniatures is especially appealing because of the precision required to execute refined art in small scale. For many years now there has been a growing involvement by well known Southwest Indian families to the creation of unparalleled works of art in miniature. Tiny baskets just to look at, far too small to be practical, but what a feat to create. And pots so small that only skilled artists, so self assured, can decorate them in relative scale. The time and effort expended in their creation often are no less, in fact, than full size objects.
