For those familiar with the potters of Santa Clara, Helen is well known for her deeply incised works which she produced with her husband, Kenneth Shupla, who was a well known Hopi Kachina carver. This piece is a black on black carved avanyu pattern that was one of Helen's favorite designs. Although she died in 1985, she left a lovely legacy of beautiful pottery and a fine potter in her son Alton Komalestewa.
